Horse Memo Diary Part 2

  Intro:

This chapter begins in the early 1877.

Chapter 2:

I open my eyes to the sound of Rooster Col calling to wake me up. I am not sure if I have overslept or not. You see, Rooster Col crows at 5:00, when I normally have to wake up and 7:00. I hope that I have woken up at 5:00 so that I can take care of my routine and then leave for Berkley at 7:00. I will be studying food, for that is all I know about. I love growing food and school so I'm sure I'll love studying about food too.

When I go outside, I notice that it's still pretty dark. YES. I have woken up at the right time. I hurry into the candle room. We don't have any lightbulbs yet and it's quite dark. I grab one that is about to run out and put it into my parents' room. I grab a feel their rag. My mom's is dry. THE FEVER IS HIGH. I feel my dad's. STILL A BIT WET. That's good. I kiss them goodbye and their eyes open up a bit and say, "Goodbye my Princess" with the last of their strength. I am worried. I stare at them as they fall back asleep. Princess. Princess. Princess. I am their Princess. I take the candle as it turns off.

I hop onto my horse, Beauty as I repeat. Princess. Princess. Princess. Beauty rushes in the dark while I hold a lamp.

Chapter 3:

Beauty stops in front of a palace. Come on beauty!!!! No time for breaks!!! But Beauty doesn't budge. Instead, she points her head to the palace. And starts to try to get me off. As I get off, she pushes me with her beautiful face towards the palace. OMG. This can't be Berkley. This is HUGE!!!

I go inside after sending Beauty back home. I am not worried that Beauty won't make it home because I have done this before and I know that she has good sense of getting home. After 10 weeks of collage, I get a letter from my dad. It says:

Hi my Princess, Anne,

Beauty arrived a 9 weeks and 6 days ago. Your mother died of a heart attack after knowing that you were gone. She had spent her last 10 minutes looking around the farm for you. She was really worried and when she remembered that she had said goodbye, she started crying and then, she...she... (you know what). I am sorry. I will try and get more money for you to stay in college. Oh, and the doctor came and told me that I am deaf but I will fight it for your own good.

Your Dad.

Anne dropped her textbook with a THUNK.  She screamed. Everyone in her class stared at me. I ignored them and grabbed her stuff and rushed outside. Just then, a boy who had been staring at me for the last 10 years chased after me and sat next to the crying lump, me on the stairs to the main entrance into Berkley. He grabbed my hand and led me into the yard of Berkley and beneath a large apple tree. There. A horse as beautiful as Beauty was grazing. Not on grass, but on the trees.

The boy, who I soon learned was John, tells me that the horse's name is Anne, although the horse is a boy. When I ask why, John's face turns red, as red as the apples on the tree. Then he whispers, "Because I named him after a girl I like." I look up at John. I then noticed for the first time, that he is quite handsome. Then, slowly, John wipes my tears with his fingers and picks me up, and onto Anne the Horse.

Without a split second passing, I told the horse, "To Forest Farm". Then with a neigh, Anne and I were off. As soon as I arrive, I see Beauty. She runs over to meet me. But as soon as she comes over, instead of pushing her head towards me, she starts licking Anne the Horse. I am quite surprised for Beauty gets vicious with other horses. Just then, I see a man. My...my...dad. I haven't seen him up and out of bed for years now and I am so glad he's alright. My dad comes over, holds my hand and takes me to a lump. There is a cross that says. Jessie. My mom's grave. I started to cry and my dad, who had been trying to fight tears, let the tears fall onto his face too.

Author's Note:

Horse Memo Diary Part 1

Intro:

In this short story, you will be experiencing a 10 year old farmer girl, Annie's life. In this story, she will be meeting a new friend named Bella. Annie and Bella will soon learn they had known each other for their whole life. This story's setting takes place in the early 1867.

Chapter 1:

I open my eyes from the sound of Rooster Col's sweet sound. I need to wake up. I step into my shoes and look at the sundial on the dry soil. 7:00! I had overslept! The pigs woke up earlier than me! They are looking under piles of leaves trying to see if there's any food to eat. The pigs are now looking up to me as if calling my name,"Anne! Anne! Do you have any food?" My parents have been sick for weeks and I am their only hope. I take off like a rocket into the shed where we store our food and supplies.

I come back and shove apples into the begging pigs' mouths. They ask for more but that's all they get for breakfast. Next, I go to my parents' room. This is the Morning Song. All of this. From the rooster, the sundial, the pigs, to my parents. All of it. The song continues as I change the wet cloth on parents'               foreheads. They groan as I do this. They have had a fever for a couple weeks now and I am worried. The Morning Song fades away as the sun goes down. This is now the start of night's work. Since I didn't finish my morning work, I need to finish all of it at night. I am under lots of pressure but I know it's my fault for oversleeping.

I cut some wood and put the chunks into the fire. Next, I boil some water and put some rice in it. I am making some jook for my parents. You see, my grandparents are Korean and before they passed away, had made this for my parents. They had said jook was the best doctor for someone with fever. All it is "rice soup". Because it is soup, it is easy to eat...even for the sick. I grab 3 bowls and give one to each of my parents and one for myself.

My parents take the jook and finish almost automatically while I take a while thinking about how these tired and worn-out parents used to be such jolly ones. As I think, I look up at the sky and see a shooting star. I pray that my parents will get better soon.
